The establishment of the Sahid Jakarta University cannot be separated from the long history of the work of the Founder and Advisor of the Sahid Jaya Education and Social Welfare Foundation, the late Prof.Dr.H. Sukamdani Sahid Gitosardjono as his contribution to the intellectual life of the nation in accordance with the mandate of the 1945 Constitution, because of the responsibility to prepare the future of the Indonesian nation which is knowledgeable, charitable, scientific and cultured is the right and obligation of every Indonesian citizen.

Sahid University Jakarta (USAHID) is an expansion of the Sahid Tourism and Hospitality Academy (APPS) which was established based on the decree of the Sahid Jaya Social, Education and Welfare Foundation No. 039 / Sc / Kpts / PI / 1982 and the Decree of the KOPERTIS Coordinator Region III Ministry of Education and Culture of the Republic of Indonesia No. 0275 / KOP.III.N.XII / 82. With the issuance of Government Regulation no. 30/1990, which in one of its points explained implicitly that the Non-Degree Faculty was not recognized in the National Higher Education System, then starting January 1, 1991, the Non-Degree Faculty was changed back to the Sahid Hospitality and Tourism Academy.
